State reports 87 new COVID-19 cases for Juneau Oct. 16 thru 18 & 66 deaths statewide
The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) reports 87 new residents in the Juneau community identified with COVID-19 for October 16 thru 19. According to Juneau Public Health, there are about 225 active cases. Of those, 75 cases are from individuals age 18 or under and 55 cases are from individuals under 12. The age range of positive cases is from under 1 to mid-90s. The Juneau School District reports one new individual at Harborview Elementary who’s tested positive for COVID-19 and was infectious while in school. No classes are quarantined though since there is no student attendance at schools this week due to the Alaska Day holiday, parent-teacher conferences, and staff in-service. Statewide, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reports 2,842 new people<https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/af2efc8bffbf4cdc83c2d1a134354074> identified with COVID-19 – 2,785 are residents and 57 are nonresidents – in the past four days. The state also reports 65 resident deaths and one nonresident death – 10 that occurred this month, 44 that occurred in September (including two Juneau deaths that CBJ already reported in September<https://juneau.org/newsroom-item/113-new-covid-19-cases-two-deaths-reported-for-juneau-sept-25-27>), one in July, one in May, and one in April – bringing the total number of resident deaths to 659 and nonresident deaths to 24. Alaska has had 125,445 cumulative resident cases of COVID-19 and a total of 5,145 nonresidents.
